World Cup 2018 - Groups

World cup will start in a few days. FIFA has also launched the relevant fantasy game (https://fantasy.fifa.com). Let's check initially the rules. They are the same rules as in the uefa champions league fantasy ( http://uclfantasy.uefa.com/en/fantasy17/rules ). As a result we are searching for goals or assists, ideally from defenders or midfielders, clean sheets and we'll choose our players trying to maximize the usage of manual substitutions (e.g. we should not select 2 goalkeepers that would play the same day, we'll try to pick a potential captain from each day and then every day we'll substitute those that haven't met our expectations). There are no bonus points (as in FPL). One major difference compared to CHL is that national teams do not have the luxury of rotations or many alternatives. A winning lineup will not change. There is no reason to rotate a striker who is scoring. There is no reason to risk with different formations. As a result we'll w

UEFA CHL Quarter Finals - 2nd leg

We are very close to infinite pizza nights. I would prefer Barca-Bayern and Liverpool-Real or Barca-Liverpool and Real-Bayern. We'll just have to wait for this gameweek. City can win but Liverpool can also score and then City would need 5 goals. In fantasy terms this is a game that we'll avoid. Else you can select temporary Jesus, Sterling, Sane , just for this match. Milner can also score (a penalty). From Barca, Messi (as always) is a good choice. Dembele will find space to run and can also score. Lewa is our choice for captain this week. Urlich and Martinez  (plays as defensive midfielder) are also good choices. From Madrid we'll pick CR7, Marcelo and Casmiro

UEFA CHL Quarter Finals - 1st leg

Tuesday 03, April From Sevilla  Ben Yedder could be an option but not while there are other forwards available like Lewa, CR7, Messi, Jesus, Salah. Apart from him, Sevilla can be easily defeated or find a new hero even for a game. So actually we won't suggest any players from Sevilla. As we expect Bayern to win even in both games, our proposal is to pick as many players you can, trying also to maximize the value of any credit spent. Ulrich, Kimmich, James, Lewa, Alaba. You can also wait for the lineups for any surprise like Sule or Javi Martinez. Juventus is again back in the usual 1st place in their national league. Tottenham has lost a title from Leicester. Qualifying against Juve would actually be a major achievement for their history, no matter how many good players they have. Now Juve has to qualify against Real Madrid. Madrid is also struggling this year but CR7 is always there. A very difficult match to predict. We'll pick 1-2 players from b

Uefa CHL Round of 16 - 2nd leg

During this gameweek our 2 transfers will be used initially for banned or injured players. In the round of 8 we'll have again 5 transfers but these will not be enough to replace everyone, so keep an eye for the teams already qualified or disqualified (e.g. in case for any reason you have players form Porto or Besiktas you can get rid of them). In general it is a very difficult gameweek as many teams have already qualified and there is no reason to invest in anyone else just for 1 match. You can also have a look in our analysis for the first leg of this round: https://fantasyopliktos.blogspot.com/2018/02/uefa-round-of-16-first-leg.html Let's start analyzing each day. Tuesday 6 March 2018 -Real Madrid has nothing else to care. These matches are Real’s entire season now.  -Neymar is injured -Most probably Real has already qualified, so pick someone for the rest of the tournament ( CR7, Casemiro) -If you still believe that PSG can qualify go for Di Maria

UEFA Round of 16 - First Leg

Champions League is back! During the next 2 weeks, the top 16 teams from Europe will compete hard to qualify to the next round. During this fantasy gameweek unlimited transfers are allowed. We'll have to form our teams carefully, by selecting players from each of the 4 days and this way be able to substitute captains and players. Moreover, we'll have to keep an eye on the future by selecting players from those teams that we expect to qualify. During the next gameweek the 2 transfers will be useful only for banned or injured players. In the round of 8 we'll have again 5 transfers but these will not be enough to replace everyone. Let's start analyzing each day. Tuesday 13 February 2018 -Man. City will focus on a European title during the next months, as domestic title has very limited challenge for them. -Basel has lost Manuel Akanji (Borussia Dortmund) and Renato Steffen (Wolfsburg), but also re-signed Valentin Stocker (Hertha Berlin) and Fabian Fr

GW16: Dos and Don'ts

West Ham v Chelsea West Ham have been having serious defensive issues and as a tactical mastermind as Moyes is, he has not yet managed to cover them up.We are not expecting him to do it right away, anyhow. 32 goals against is currently the worst defence of the league and they have not managed a win for the last 8 games. Chelsea have improved a lot since the start of the season, with Eden Hazard being the main reason. He has contributed 4 goals & 2 assists at the last 4 games. Chelsea are in an excellent run with only one draw at the last 8 games and -at current form- they should be beating the Hammers easily. We expect 1-3. DOs: Hazard (10.8): We have just stated the reason above. Morata (10.8): Chelsea will score a lot, so he will be in the scoresheet as well DON'Ts: West Ham defence. See above Willian: He usually comes off the bench to get his customary single point. Somehow this was skewed against Liverpool, but we do not expect much more from the afro-haired

Uefa Champions League GW6

The group stage of the Champions League comes to an end on Tuesday and Wednesday and 14 teams will be fighting for the 8 remaining places in the round of 16.
•    Teams already qualified: Barcelona, Bayern, Beşiktaş, Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Tottenham.
 •    Teams that can still qualify: Atlético Madrid, Basel, CSKA Moskva, Juventus, Leipzig, Liverpool, Manchester United, Napoli, Porto, Roma, Sevilla, Shakhtar Donetsk, Spartak Moskva and Sporting. •    Teams that cannot finish in top two: Anderlecht, APOEL, Borussia Dortmunda and Celtic. •    Teams that will finish fourth: Benfica, Feyenoord, Maribor, Monaco, Olympiacos, Qarabağ. Group A DO - Lang from Basel is a great option. He's scored in the last 5 games, although playing as defender. - Akanji is another cheap and reliable defender from Basel. DONT -MU has already qualified. With progression all but secure, Mourinho could rest key players for the weekend derby clash wi
